The Down Low: Sessions 28, 29 & 30

A fresh batch of Down Low Sessions for you focusing on the best of bass, house, techno and other beats related type tunes.

Session 28 is a house and techno expedition with a little bit of jungle towards the end. The cover picture sums up the vibe on this mix, full of 6am sunrise types tunes, this is the kind of mix perfect for getting home and seeing in the break of dawn.

If you prefer it deep, dark and moody then Session 29 will take you there. The first three tunes of this mix set the scene perfectly with drifting vocals and dark, low basslines. If you like the Cosmic Bridge labels 140bpm jungle sound then this will hit the spot. Other notables in here are Tipper and Atlantic Connection, who can never do wrong in my book.

Need some jeep beats to bump along to? Session 30 is a more upbeat take on the bass and house sound which will get you nodding and singing along in places. Special mention for Martin Solveig & GTA’s – Intoxicated which is a little more commercial than I’d normally go, but has become a guilty pleasure for me. It is just so damn funky and one of the best party tunes of the years for me.

A special shout out to Phuture Freq Radio, where these mixes were originally being played and hosted. After more than a decade of providing exceptional beats across the internet the site has finally closed it doors. I’ve been involved with Guy Andrew’s station since 2002 and I wish him all the best on his burgeoning production career and hope he gets a similar site up and running again soon so we can continue to bring the music to the masses. What’s that you say? It’s the weekend and you haven’t got anything to listen too.

Well here you go – three new Down Low Session chock full of new tunes and diverse styles to keep you going for at leat the next three hours.

Session 25 is a cracking chill-out house set for of good vibes and lush lyrics. I defy anyone not to sing along to Blood Groove & Kikis – Free Like A Bird. This set is just like that holiday in Ibiza where you can’t remember how you lost your knickers on the dance floor.

Session 26 rolls up all ghetto with dubstep, hip-hop and trap kicking out the jams. You definitely want to keep an ear out for Atlantic Connection – Go feat. Tunde Olaniran which is my track of the year so far. Impossibly impressive beats, bass and vocals.

Session 27 is one for the Techno and Tech House lovers and has a heavy deep and dark and Chicago influence to it. Highlights for me is the oh-so-tech inspired Neighbours by Madben & Yann, Sixteenth Pulse – Frames and Rainforest’s chill out classic Weather Swing.

Catching you up on the last two Down Low Sessions for 2014.

November is an upbeat little number with House roots and a smattering of Deep Techno and Hip-Hop thrown in for good measure. Featuring tracks from Dan Sieg’s – A Sense of Wonder LP and Apollinia’s – Tour á Tour LP, both of which are well worth a listen if you like this style of music.

December is dedicated to the dance floor destroyers with a giant dose of Trap, Bass and Grime courtesy of artists like Spenda C, DES and RL Grime. Too much bass is never enough.

You might also notice the yellow speaker skull image has been retired. I figured it was high time to reflect Hobart in the artwork and drop in skylines from around the local area for you to enjoy while you listen to the future sounds.

All right Bass music lovers, it’s Down Low Sessions catch up time again taking us from July through to October of the monthly podcast. Get the latest November edition at pfradio.com. It’s the usual smattering of house, techno, chilled dubstep, trap, hip-hop and anything else that falls under the Bass genre that turned me on at the time.

As a quick overview number 19 is a smooth blend of house and 2-step with some crackers in there from ‘it’ band London Grammar and big beat heroes Basement Jaxx. Number 20 heads into deeper territory and is much more broken beats on a chilled out and ambient tip. Session 21 is chock full of bangers ranging from acid inspired rave, hard techno, trap and even a bit of dirty white boy hip-hop courtesy of Three Loco. And, last but not least, Session 22 is a trap, duke, footwork rinse out with the odd surprise thrown in there for good measure.

The variety is vast, the quality is excellent so dig deep and enjoy. 🙂

Been sleeping on uploading my Down Low Sessions side project for Phuture Frequency Radio, so this is a catch up for May, June and July. If you’re a Bass Music lover this lot will keep you rolling strong. Number 008 it is up on the PF Radio site right now. Subscribe to the podcast if you want The Down Low Sessions fresh off the decks as they happen each month.

Sessions 005 has a good selection of deep Bass tracks going on and, while it is laid back, it packs enough punch to keep you nodding. Sessions 006 and 007 are more floor orientated with a good dose of Trap and Techno going on. Definitely good drive by themes if your planning on working the bass cones while creeping the streets in your jeep.

Another Bass Music mix from the pfradio archives. Once again a lot of D&B artists flexing their slower BPM muscle such as Synkro, Actraiser, Unquote, Eveson and Rockwell. This one has a UK Garage and Dub flavour to it, so if you like hitting the dance floor with a blunt in your mouth you’ll love this one.

Third in the Down Low series and this time we hit the dance floor whilst still keeping things on the deeper tip. Kicking things off with Photek’s massive remix of Birdy’s ‘Shelter’ we go into a selection made for moving. Interesting to note there is a stack of D&B producers in here like Lemon D, Netsky, Sunchase & Nickbee, Logistics, Tali and Atlantic Connection all flexing their Bass Music muscles. This wasn’t done on purpose, but it seems these guys have a knack for producing exactly the sort of Bass Music that moves me.

As some of you may know I’ve recently moved from Perth to Hobart and had to drop my long running radio show on RTRfm. Having done the show for over 15 years I yearned for something to fill the gap in my life giving up radio in Perth had left me with. So, thanks to the wonderful and talented Guy Andrews at Phuture Frequency Radio I have started up a new monthly radio show/podcast.

It’s a bass music session devoted to the deeper and dubbier side of all things bass, and will feature a lot of different genres including techno, dubstep, house, UK garage to name just a few.
