All’s Well That Ends Well – Ear & Drum Session 99

Last mix in the double figures for the Ear & Drum Sessions, and it’s a little ripper. Full of melodic gems from the Liquid end of D&B – perfect sunny day tunes to get you bouncing.

A special mention has to got Makoto for his bootleg of Pharrell Williams ‘Happy’. Easily one of the best commercial tracks of the year, it only gets better after Makoto has given it an atmospheric rework. And best of all it is yours to download for free right here.

Other notables are Technimatic with his new ‘Desire Paths’ LP on Shogun Audio which is well worth a listen. Plus the good people at Fokuz Recordings with their ‘Crossroads EP’. There are only three tracks on it, but all three were strong enough to be included into the mix and include emerging artists I’d never heard of.

Enjoy number 99 and get ready for a special number 100.

Atlantic Connection 2001-2010 Archive

I was blown away this week by Atlantic Connection releasing 80 free tracks that represents the best of the producer’s output spanning 10 years. Such generosity from an artist deserves to be applauded and shared. I could bang on and on about why this is means a lot to me, but I’ll leave it up tot he man himself.

Music is meant to be heard and shared, and maybe that one song might help someone’s day; or give them a chance to reflect in ways that will help them grow as people.

That’s what music does for me and maybe my music can do that for other people. It’s not going to do any good just letting it sit on a hard-drive for eternity feels counter-productive and cold.

The reason for the large volumes of music at once? Well, I managed to get 300 songs down to two collections of about 40; did the best I could.

I couldn’t put it any better myself. Listen to the amazing music of Atlantic Connection and, if you enjoy it, show some support and buy some of his more recent stuff. He deserves it.

The Melt – The Melt Compilation Vol.1

Been absolutely ages since I’ve put up any news on here, let alone some free tracks, and I promise in the future I’ll try harder to seek out some good stuff for you guys. Like this compilation from The Melt! So basically I know nothing about this label or the artists other than it is wicked music well worth downloading, especially considering the asking price. I’ll leave it to the labels PR to do the talking…

Since our beginning, we’ve been consistently crossing paths with talented artists one way or another. Whether it was from them playing one of our shows, or us finding them on the web, we’ve found something we love about everyone on here. The Melt Compilation Vol. 1 is a collection of songs from these artists alongside all five of our residents who include Gossamer, Moiety, Snorlax, FuzZ, Kloud, and Djemba Djemba. The styles incorporated within the compilation span one too many sub-genres too mention. The release itself is a result of the growing community of talent that we find ourselves in each day. We’re grateful to be a part of such a progressive movement of artists who are paving new paths and we look forward to being here to watch the growth continue. Download/stream the entire compilation for free!

Free Alex Reece track for download: Phasion – Insight

Phasion – Insight

Those lovely people from Creative Wax are giving away this unrelease piece of history from on of D&Bs founding fathers. The press release reads…

Here’s an unreleased track by brothers Alex and Oscar Reece, circa 1999. The track features Pevin Everett on vocals and was part on an EP that never quite made it out the lab…enjoy

Can’t say fairer than that now can you. Go get it. 🙂

Siberian Jungle – Free LP from Tunguska Electronic Music Society

I recently stumbled across this amazing compilation of D&B from Russia. On the awesomely named Tunguska Electronic Music Society label this is the best D&B album so far this year for variety and quality of tunes. Some of the mix downs are a little rough, but the actual tunes themselves are top notch and best of all it is FREE!

Well when I say free you can pay them what you think the album is worth, or just download it for free. I suggest you pay as not only do these guys deserve the money, but you also get FLACs or WAVs of the tunes instead of MP3s. Stand out tracks for me were Vospi – Reverence which is a cracking jazz and bass rinse out, 3D Stas – Surface of Doomed Planet which rolls out in a moody and almost trance like way and Stipple – Stalker which is another deep Trance & Bass roller.

I suggest you check out http://tunguskagrooves.com/en/ as they have a heap of other albums on their site covering all sorts of other electronic genres. And you can get the Siberian Jungle album HERE

DJ DED – Increase of Emotions
Chooga – 3170 Lakes
3D Stas – Surface of Doomed Planet
DJ DED – Japan Funk
Nuclear Box – Neoromantic
Drudex feat NEOSIDE – The Big Distance
Paralyzah – Big Wonderful Thing
Jung – Night Voices
EXIT Project – Fairy Tale (Slawa Neo Vision DNB remix)
Stipple – Stalker
Vospi – Lonely Pretender
3D Stas – K1n (Edit)
Nuclear Box – Think About You
Vospi – Reverence

Unrelease Yourself – Ear & Drum Session 43

Getting in one last mix for 2010 and it is a belter. This year has been good for D&B in general, but for me the quality of the free music circulated in 2010 is as good if not better than the official releases. Free tunes in general allow a producer to get away from producing tracks that need to fit into a record labels ‘sound’ and allows them the freedom to really let fly.

For me this year Subwave’s ‘Gift EP’ and S13’s amazing ‘Yourself EP’ were standouts. Deep, melodic and totally different from anything else out there (they are also available for download here at the Ear & Drum). But to be honest all the tracks in this mix are great and really show that D&B is still evolving in all sorts of exciting ways.

If you want to save yourself time searching for the tracks in this mix I haven’t hosted here at The Ear & Drum during the year, then try looking at THIS LINK which leads to a DOA thread about the best free MP3s from 2010.

Happy New Year to everyone who has supported me throughout the year and here’s hoping 2011 is even better.

The Gift EP – Free Subwave EP from Metalheadz

If you haven’t already heard the Mighty Subwave has kindly offer up a free EP on the Metalheadz label. To say this kind of quality doesn’t come around very often is an understatement so don’t sleep on it. All the tracks are strong, but Gift and in particular Darkness Dub are total killer and tracks I’d happily shell out cash for.

Big ups Metalheadz and Subwave for the musical generosity.

Producer Profile: S13

You gottah love D&B for throwing artists your way that you haven’t even heard of, but blow you away with the quality of their music. One such artist is S13, who’s free Yourself EP features four solid tracks that are all well worth listening too and, even better, mixing. The highlight for me is a track called Earth Ulro, which is totally inspired and inspiring.

If I can dig up any info on S13 I’ll add it here, but for now he is a mystery to me. So I’ll just have to copy and paste the press release that came with the EP.

Once two different stories began. As the result we give you the best quality electronic music for free. S13 has been a big secret but now it’s time to tell you the truth.

Nestle down and don’t talk. Hear the cold and depth of his thoughts. Feel the sand and gaze of his mysterious eyes. Discover his weird Earth Ulro.

Producer Profile: ICR

Hungarian D&B artist Zoltan Gal, also known as ICR, has been a key figure in the country’s thriving D&B scene. In 1999 he established it’s online magazine and community site, ImpulseCreator.hu and has releases on dozens of diverse labels worldwide such as Offshore, Covert Operations , Good Looking, Nerve, Fokuz, Counter Intelligence, Flatline Audio, X-Tinction Agenda, Red Mist, Vibez and Influence.

In 2007, he started own label, Misspent Music, which continues to release high quality liquid and esoteric D&B. ICR has been integral in shaping the exceptional Hungarian D&B scene, and he continues to blaze a trail gloabally by releasing his latest album Restored as a free download. Not only is this incredibly generous, but I also think this will be the way of things in the future for music in general.

As a true D&B pioneer, ICR we salute you.
