Internal Eyes – Ear & Drum Session 140

2017 was a great year for Liquid & D&B in general. Liquid D&B seemed to split out into different sub-genres with there being a distinct harder, ravier (is that even a word?) and a far more relaxed sound. This mix focuses on the more chilled out end of the spectrum.

Keep an ear out for Chimpo’s sing-a-long ode to a by-gone era 1996, the mighty Seba who pops up in various different collaborations including with German ambient legend Ulrich Schnauss on the hilariously titled Snöflingor plas an extra big shout to Mitekiss who features heavily on here and who really came into his own in 2017.

Welcome to 2018 and here’s hoping it is your year.

She Said – Ear & Drum Session 135

You know Liquid D&B has made it’s mark when Goldie starts releasing gorgeous melodic vocal driven tunes like I Adore You. There are so many beautiful tracks in this mix it hurts, helped in no small part by the release of new LPs by Mr Goldie and Irish liquid legend Calibre. There is also a very healthy supporting cast in the form Hybrid Minds, Artificial Intelligence and my new favourite Dawn Wall.

Not much else to say but enjoy this mix of lush liquid tunes. 🙂

What’s that Patreon button doing there?

I’ve been DJing for the love of it for 20+ years and giving my mixes away for free online for well over a decade. I’ve been approached by advertisers to put ads on my site and I’ve always resisted as making money out of mixing other people’s music doesn’t sit well with me.

I am just the vessel through which their music flows.

Even though I’ve plowed enough money to buy a house into my music collection over the years, I never really thought about getting paid for something I got so much out of. Playing music always seemed like payment enough.

But, recently a few people have asked if I have a Patreon and seemed a bit disappointed I didn’t. Each one of them wanted to thank me personally for years of listening pleasure and so here I am…

I will keep on doing what I have always done and run The Ear & Drum as a 100% free site where I can share my love of music with others.

If you do wish to support me, know that I see you as a true patron and that your patronage means a lot to a guy who just lives to mix great music.

Thank you.

The Down Low: Session 034

Chilled out bass, techno and house are the order of the day with this downtempo mix.

A few personal highlights – Rainforest’s sublime Between Us, Lane 8’s The Great Divide with Are Scott on sultry vocals and the throw your hands in the air fun of Purple Disco Machine’s Where We Belong. But if I had to be honest, every tune is in here on their own merits and they are all great. 🙂

Download, lie down and unwind. Rewind.

Where’s the new mixes?

Some of the more frequent visitors may have notice the mixes have dried up lately.

I haven’t given up on the blog.

I am currently waiting to be connected to the NBN (National Broadband Network) here in Oz. For some unexplained reason it now takes 3 months to be connected to the internet instead of a week due to the new fiber optic infrastructure.

A first world problem I know, but I promise I’ll be back bigger and better in the new year with more mixes and an improvement in the provision of D&B and Bass Music related news and free tunes.

In the meantime you can find my some recent Down Low Sessions at pfradio.com under my Low Profile alias.

Hold tight and have a Merry Christmas.

Tide Turning – Ear & Drum Session 74

Another new mix up this time focusing on the harder and deeper side of things. Kicking things off with Marcus Intalex – The Guillotine, a track destined to kick off many a set in the future. J Majik & Wickaman manage to remain on form, this time with the help of SunddenDef on their colab Hologram and Seba returns to rotation with his uber deep roller Nightraider. The half step revolution continues with Jubei doing a Marka with his track Say Nothin’ and the originators Dub Phizix prove it wasn’t just a fluke with their follow half stepping monster Never Been.

Those lovely people from Creative Wax are giving away this unrelease piece of history from on of D&Bs founding fathers. The press release reads…

Here’s an unreleased track by brothers Alex and Oscar Reece, circa 1999. The track features Pevin Everett on vocals and was part on an EP that never quite made it out the lab…enjoy

Can’t say fairer than that now can you. Go get it. 🙂

Last Gasp – Ear & Drum Session 57

Well summer has wrapped up for another year in the Nothern Hemisphere which means most the big festivals has once again come and gone. It also means festival season is about to hit down under. I wouldn’t describe this as strictly a festival set, but it is the closest I’ll ever come to playing the ‘big tunes’ from the festival season. It is also the first long form mix I’ve done in quite a while, as I figured I may as well get it all out of my system in one big hit.

So if you are missing the summer just gone, or looking forward to the oncoming season this is the mix for you. 🙂
